POGGI UGO

Since 1919, the Poggi family has been working the precious Impruneta terracotta in an ancient furnace dating back to 1500. The property on which the furnace with an adjoining quarry once stood, was bought by Tommaso Tobia Poggi, and reopened after the damage suffered by the 1895 earthquake. Tommaso Tobia was soon joined by his sons Augusto and Ugo in running the furnace, which had been restored and enlarged over the years. At the beginning of the century XX was produced almost exclusively building materials such as bricks, floors and everything needed for roofing, but also basins and jars for oil and wine. Currently, Ugo’s grandchildren, Antonella and Lorenzo Andrei manage the business that reaches the fourth generation with them. With the desire to respect history and tradition, Antonella and Lorenzo have chosen to introduce a new design line in terracotta: current shapes and lines that will become witnesses of the trends of these years in the future, with the rule of keeping intact respect for processing. traditional and artistic hand made by the internal workers.

The desire to improve has led to collaborate with designers, architects, sculptors and artists to bring crafts and art closer and closer. The Terrecotte Poggi Ugo furnace is known in the terracotta sector for producing accurate artifacts and the Poggi Ugo – Impruneta brand is recognized as a synonym of quality “Made in Italy”. The craftsmanship of the execution of the artifacts and the drying and firing phases give this material soft and nuanced color tones as a characteristic and value of Poggi terracotta, but the magical color of the terracotta is above all the work of fire and is revealed throughout the its strength in the material that has just come out of the kiln and spread out in the open-air square.
