AKA ALFIE’S FUZZY FRIENDS

Originally from Stockholm, Sweden. Artist and fashion designer Alfhild Kulper studied at Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London. Living in Amsterdam, for the last 10 years, she is combining her work for fashion house Viktor&Rolf with an art practice, focusing on soft, emotionally loaded textile pieces.  “My road into textile art started a year and half ago, with a sudden, but very strong longing. I started daydreaming about making these pieces, it became an obsession. I only realised after, that the intense longing for making something physically soft was tied to the longing for a more empathic and emotional emviroment.  The tactility felt like a counterpart to our digital lives. And  the organic shapes and  slow process, based on intuition,  now felt like a protest against the rule of cold logic and hyper capitalism.”  The works depicture abstract memories of nature and figures. “ Spirits. They are spirits. They are floating beings, a glimpse of a lighter world. They have always been with me. As shadows, always sin the corner of my eye. I used to say it was the cat, even long after the cat was gone and I had moved away. My mother is a dancer, and I grew up among the moving bodies and the mossy forests where they live” AK
