BEATRICE CELLI
My universe is inspired by the mystical and popular culture of my native region, Abruzzo (Italy), where I explore the bridges between craftsmanship, folklore and the marvelous. A legacy transmitted by the women of my family that is reincarnated in hybrid symbols populated by the subtle presence of the diabolical rictus. My sculptures, performances, texts and installations attempt to bring modest materials and neglected micro-stories back to life. This occurs through a wide variety of gestures, ranging from spontaneity to impulsiveness, from treatment to ritual. These rural beliefs thus open a breach in a subordinate time and in a dream space, and materialize as contemporary objects of worship freed from any religious dogmatism, activating a syncretism that connects the earth to the sky, the body to the mind, the vernacular art. and the fine arts. I work between Castelli (Teramo, IT) and Marseille (FR) and I graduated in 2019 at the Villa Arson in Nice, I also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino (Italy) and in Rome. In 2019 I participated in the École Offshore, a postgraduate arts program in Shanghai. My work has been exhibited among all at the Kleine Humboldt Galierie in Berlin, at the Venice Biennale, at the Institute of Visual Arts in Shanghai, in the Sonnenstube offspace in Lugano in Switzerland, at the “The Address” Gallery in Brescia (IT) and at the 100% exhibition at the Parc de Villette in Paris. In 2017 I conceived the “CalceViva” project with the aim of revitalizing degraded public spaces, and in March 2021, during the second lockdown, he presented the personal exhibition “Pandæmonium” in the municipal windows of Castelli (TE) Italy. In October 2021 he inaugurated the personal exhibition “Le jardin des allegories” at the art center of the Villa Arson. Selected for the Thankyouforcoming residency at Kaunas Artists’ House in Lithuania from 5 to 25 July 2021, as part of the “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” program, I am preparing an exhibition to be held in Kaunas on 21 June 2022.
