LEAH ANITA CAVAZZINI
Sound alchemist Leah Anita Cavazzini transmits her connection to the higher realms through sound with crystal and alchemic bowls. Inspired by the blooming new life energy of the Spring season, she will channel an hour sound journey, that expells out old energy and showers in new light frequencies to start the Spring Awakening Residency on a fresh, elevated note.
GISELA WILLIAMS
For more than a decade, she has traveled the globe collecting stories, profiling UTOPIAN COMMUNITIES and visionaries, and capturing the cultural zeitgeist from Berlin to Bali. She is the European correspondent for Food & Wine and contributes to The New York Times, Elle Décor, The Financial Times, Vogue and T Magazine, among other publications. She also co-hosts the radio show Berlin Stories for NPR. Born in Connecticut, Gisela lived in Bali, Bermuda, and Brooklyn before moving to Madrid in 2001. Three years later she left Spain for Germany. She is now happily settled down in Germany with her husband and three children.
BARBARA EATUTBA
She was born in the Czech Republic. Her mother is German-French-Hungarian and her father is English. When she was 4 years old she moved with her mother to the province of Siena in Tuscany where she lived among the vast clay hills of the region under one of the darkest skies in Italy. She was fascinated by the irrepressible energy of the forces of nature she was confronted with and immersed herself in the uncontaminated paradise, finding solace among the forests, the trees and the stars. Ever since she was a child she has been creating installations and objects with natural elements, remembering the symbolism and discovering new forms of language and communication, which have guided her to the point of amplifying and evolving into the development of new forms of osmotic communicationHer research is based on the energetic exchange between the individual and the outer world. Whatever we absorb from nature will sustain us and grant us with a long lasting interior balance and equilibrium. This philosophy derives from the never-ending question of the origin of all things and its relationship with everything. She creates large medicine circles, either contemplative or active, in order to heighten awareness of the balance between our environment and nature. Many people choose individual sessions for the medicine circles.Harmony and interaction with the environment can help us to recover our interior language, similar to our lost memories of childhood which our soul craves for.
SARA RICCIARDI
On stage, the dancer moves,
Slowly, with poetry and minimalism,
To the rhythmes of the musician’s terran sounds.
He is almost naked and his body is painted white.
Each of his movements matters and is justly measured
Little by little, a profound relation is created with the audience.
The japanese character of butô is made up of two elements :
bu meaning “dance” and tô meaning “hitting the ground”. Impregnated with buddhism and shintô beliefs, butô is a subversive dance which opposes itself to the occidental influence of classical ballet and modern dance but also to the traditional artistic forms of Japan such as the Nô or the Kabuki. It is part of a rupture with the traditional living arts which seem powerless to express new questions. Sara let us try the exercise of a wire in order to intense our bodily presence.
LUIGI PRESICCE
Luigi Presicce was born in Porto Cesareo (Lecce) in 1976, he lives and works in Florence. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce, deliberately choosing not to discuss the thesis. His work was heavily influenced by his independent studies. In 2007 he participated in the Advanced Course of Visual Arts (CSAV) at the Antonio Ratti Foundation in Como with the American artist Joan Jonas.
With Luigi we are going to see a performative act that the residency’s participants need to paint in their own way.
UMBERTO DATTOLA
“I love to shape things and use the most diverse materials. In reality, by training and affinity, wood is the material closest to me. Creating, passing over functions, assigning new aesthetic and practical identities, this is what moves in me almost possessing me. The only purpose is beauty, those instants of immobility that kidnap, to which it is impossible to remain indifferent, suspended without time and tension, for a few precious moments. My work is guided by the search for those objects in which to feel enraptured, absorbed in an a-temporal dimension, entirely one’s own, intimate, it is the dialogue between the innermost part of me and my doing that guides the realization of my works. I don’t want to build to please, but for a search for meaning, for completeness. I use my hands as a tool, because by dirtying and marking them, I find the entirety of the process, from the design to the final realization, which only in this way return a sense of completeness that satisfies. Each object is entirely built by me, from start to finish.”
With Umberto we’re gonna work to build houses for birds inspired by his “invisible cities”. Container furniture made up of several houses supported by natural branches. There is a place of the soul where a model of space is jealously preserved, even an aesthetic one, an ideal yardstick, the Invisible City, the inner city that we keep inside. , where the ideal models are elaborated and built with which we compare the places and elements we encounter on the path of our life. This is why some places and some spaces often seem familiar or beautiful to us, without reason, perhaps only because they respond to the aesthetic and functional canons idealized in that model, our invisible city.
